Recently I was out and overheard this little gem.
Son: So Dad, there's something I wanted to talk about again.
Father: Son, if you join the Marine Corp, I'll kill you before they can get you.
Obviously this has come up several times between the two of them. I think everyone should be free to do what they want to do with their life (as long as it's legal). This Father obviously feels to the contrary.

Way to be a supportive and loving parent.
Ummm, yeah, great parenting. *said sarcastically.*
Hearing that must have pulled some of your heart strings. I bet it was hard not to but in and...
Father should at least be opened minded for conversation. The son does NOT need his father's permission if he is of age.
In defense of the dad though...I'm sure that he's just scared that his son will be killed in action.
Just going about it wrong.
I agree with your life philosophy. My hubby comes from a family like the man you quoted. They believe his life is "theirs" to live out how "they wish". Especially because their parents ran their life.
My neice is joining the navy and her mother isnt happy about it, but she didnt keep her from joining...
I want to be a better parent than that man...
I was in the Marine Corps and I found that conversation to be funny as hell!!!
